On Monday, Michigan regulators issued recommendations to reopen land-based casinos. This document requires gambling operators to keep poker rooms closed.

A report from the Detroit Free Press states that gambling establishments will operate at 15% of their capacity. Non-contact temperature checks will be carried out at the entrance to the establishments, visitors will be required to wear masks and maintain social distance. Casinos will temporarily cancel smoking in the halls, the work of self-service buffets and cloakrooms, valet services.

Michigan Gaming Board Executive Director Richard Calm, in an interview with The Free Press, commented on the recommendations: “We considered recommendations from the CDC, the Nevada Gaming Board, and information from the National Indian Gaming Commission in coming up with these requirements. We have requested that the casinos come up with reopening plans and we have been consulting unions for recommendations.”

Detroit is home to the MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casino. The rest of the state's gambling establishments are tribal entities and are not subject to local laws. Some of them have already reopened.

Gaming establishments across the country are reopening,part of Las Vegas casinos opened last Thursday. However, poker room policies vary from state to state. In Florida, many poker rooms opened in late May with short games, but some rooms are already switching to nine-handed games.

In mid-March, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order that forced the casinos to close. The opening date is still not named.
