WebMoney was banned from making transactions in favor of online casinos

WebMoney electronic payment service has officially confirmed the information that from now on it has no right to make transfers to bookmakers and online casinos. Thus, the platform complies with the requirements of the new federal legislation (244-FZ).

According to accepted standards, Russian electronic payment systems cannot accept, process and transfer funds to the accounts of foreign companies that are not officially registered in the Russian Federation . The ban covers not only illegal betting shops, but also various gambling sites, including online casinos.

It is important to note that back in December 2020, after a series of checks, the Central Bank of Russia issued a decision on a fine of 11 million rubles to the QIWI electronic payment system.

According to the report of the Central Bank, the organization has been From 2018 to September 2020, regularly made payments and other financial transactions in favor of foreign organizations not registered in Russia. At the same time, these transactions were not displayed in the company's reports, which was the reason for such a large fine.

Specialists are sure that the sanctions of the Russian authorities against QIWI were taken for the system's cooperation with illegal betting companies and online casinos.

A month later, a similar check took place in YuMoney (formerly Yandex.Money). The platform was also banned from any transactions with offshore companies.

Earlier it became known that from April 27, the MIR national payment system will also not be able to carry out transactions that are intended for foreign financial agents that do not have registration in the Russian Federation. Offshore gambling sites are subject to veto. The corresponding technology bulletin has already been sent out by the Central Bank to all other financial institutions of the Russian Federation.

Recall that MIR cardholderswill not be able to make payments to online casinos.
